We were a lucky little bunch o' Philes, we were, and we knew it. Thanks to the favor of merciful deities (a.k.a. Chriswife's American Express card), there we were -- me, Kel, Tara, Chriswife and her hubby -- waiting outside the Tribeca Performing Arts Center to see the world premiere of House of D. It was fun meeting all our 'net friends like Mulderpause, Pippy, Figaro, and more.
We watched the courtesy SUVs dropping off famous and nearly-famous folk at the red carpet. No common limos for these folks! Mulderpause was the first to spot David arriving, and she gave us the heads-up. All I could see at first was a leg, but since I am a-a-a-all about those legs, I took a pic anyway.
Let's get a better look at that leg...

That's more like it! :-)
A moment later, David emerged from the truck and headed toward us.

He stopped for a few minutes at the barrier by the edge of the red carpet, where we were all waiting, to say hello to us.

I've seen a few folk quibbling about the hairstyling, but you know, from this close, I simply didn't have a problem with it!

Even with all the activity and fuss swirling around him, he was every bit as pleasant and gracious as he's been the other times I've seen him. I managed to get to where he could see my shirt (a HoD crew shirt, acquired via a friend of a friend) and asked him if he would sign it, and he said 'Yes!' So I pulled the Sharpie marker out of my purse and handed it to him, and that was that!
I'd half-expected him to wonder aloud how the shirt had found its way off the set and onto me, but he didn't so much as bat an eye. I imagine he had rather too much on his mind at the moment to be worried about a single errant crew shirt... ;-)
At length he had to go into the theatre to do the press thing.

Let the photo session begin!

Thanks to Figaro...
Video files of David outside the theatreSave to your hard drive:
David's exit gave us a good excuse to head into the lobby, check out the poster...

... and pose for a pic of our own:

From the left, that's Tara, me, Kel, and Chriswife and her hubby, who are shy. I promised I would give them an appropriate disguise when I posted this pic. ;-)
The interior of theatre itself was beautiful.

David was introduced by Tribeca founder Jane Rosenthal, and he came up to give a short intro to the film and to thank the people who'd been involved in its making.

Then there was, y'know, the movie, so there aren't any pics to show you of that!
I won't spoil here. I will just say that there was much laughter, even more applause, and that I was relieved that I'd brought those tissues along for the sniffly parts. ;-)
Afterward, David came back and did a question-and answer session.

It was so great to be able to be among the first to get to see this film. And it was also pretty great that I had somebody sensible like Kel along with me to tell me not to go see if David's mom would also sign my shirt...
